Frequently Asked Questions

Is this legit?

Yes, this is a legitimate 3rd party attempt at providing a replay system for League of Legends. It has been reviewed by Riot staff and approved as safe to use, as you can read in this post by Tamat.

Will installing the client put all sorts of nasty viruses on my computer?

We hate spammers and scammers as much as the next person, so we promise provided you download the official LOL Replay client from leaguereplays.com, it will never contain any viruses or nasty bits of code designed to compromise your security or privacy.

How do I upload my replay?

You can upload your replay to the leaguereplays.com replay archive by clicking the “Upload” button next to your replay.

When playing a replay I can not see any playback controls?

Try downloading the latest DirectX Runtime from here:

How do I rewind a replay?

You cannot rewind at all using LOL Replay, nor do we see any way this would be possible given the current implementation. If you miss something you need to close the replay and start it again.

How do I edit a replay / upload it to youtube?

Replay files are not videos, so you cannot just open them in your favorite video editing software. You need to first use software like Fraps or Camtasia to record a replay while it is playing back.

Once you have recorded the bits of video you want from a replay you can then edit it together using normal video editing software and upload it to youtube.

Sounds like more work, why would I not just record all my games with Fraps?

For 2 reasons, the file size of a video is enormous, especially those output from screen capturing software. To record all the games you play would take excessive amounts of disk space and would probably need to throw a lot of them away to free space up. By contrast an LRF file saved by LOL Replay is only a few MBs for a 30min match, so you could easily have hundreds of matches recorded which you can play back at any time.

The other reason is performance. Screen capturing software requires a lot of CPU and disk IO while it is recording and this can have an effect on your game while you are playing. LOL Replay on the other hand has no noticeable impact on the performance of your computer while it is recording so you can just leave it on all the time. It will automatically start recording when you play a match too so you don’t need to remember to hit record.

I am trying to use fraps, but sometimes it is not recording.

Older versions of FRAPS do not work with the fast forward and skip features of LOLReplay. Newer versions (3.3.0+) should work fine. Make sure you have the latest version: http://www.fraps.com/download.php

I see a really high latency number on the GUI when playing back replays?

When playing back a replay, the latency is meaningless because you are not connected to a server. You can disregard its value.

Why are the health bars and player levels not always correct when I watch a replay?

Health bars and levels are only accurate for those units which were in the players camera view at any given point in time in the replay. Health bars outside of the players camera view may not be updated as frequently. This limitation is due to the way League of Legends works, however may be possible to work around, so check back for future updates.

Tournament replays do not play back properly?

At the the moment, tournament replays recorded using a 6th player on each team do not work correctly. However we are working on it so check back for updates on this.

Can I use LOL Replay to record hackers / cheaters / griefers and report them to Riot?

In our conversations with Riot we havn’t spoken about this but we’re going to suggest, no you shouldn’t. It is quite possible that behaviour that looks like cheating could just be errors in the playback of the replay and Riot will need to verify any reports against their server logs anyway.

I get an error similar to: “League of Legends.exe – Entry Point Not Found. The procedure entry point ?note_affinity@task@tbb@@UAEXG@Z could not be located in the dynamic link library tbb.dll

I have an idea or bug report you need to hear?

Awesome, as mentioned before this is a very early release of the software. It did not exist 3 weeks ago, so there is still a long way to go and we would love to hear your suggestions.

The best way to contact is via the forums, we read the forums everyday and while we may not respond we definately check each and every post.

Who are you?

We are a community of developers and LOL players original from Perth, Australia.

  • Haxalot (Matt) is the brains behind the magic that is LOL Replay

  • lungcancer (Ant) designed the LOL Replay skin
  • L4T3NCY, brothermonke, Sundory, EvilGirafffe and rolle3k have been beta testing and providing feedback

What else do you have planned?

Lots of bug fixing, expand the website to allow saving and sharing your replays online, camera improvements and maybe even live spectating. Plenty of ideas but we can’t promise anything yet so watch this space.
